Artist Statement My art tries to capture the gesture and essence of the being I am creating. The sculptures are psychological and deal with universal feelings such as loneliness, detachment, fear, power, joy etc. I try to create a raw and primitive feeling to evoke emotion while viewing the sculpture. I do this by abstracting the object either by hollowing out the form, adding texture to it or placing it on a strong diagonal plain to create tension and power. The art can be viewed at different levels of meaning and depends on the viewer's perspective. I work in wax creating one of a kind sculpture. Each piece is then cast in bronze using the lost wax process. I feel that bronze is a raw and primitive material used for thousands of years. Human beings are still dealing with emotions such as power, greed, love, hate and will continue to explore these emotions through the ages. Therefore, I feel the material and art are well suited for each other. Background Born in Yonkers, New York, Marsha acquired her MA in art education from Syracuse University.
